Disney Star Wars Virtual 13.1 Training – Week 3

Another week down. Still posting a lot later than I wanted, but it was another busy work week. Thankfully I get a nice extended weekend thanks to Thanksgiving. I am still loving the running and my knees are holding up perfectly. All of the strength training and mobility exercises I did over the last year really have paid off.

Monday – Run 1

Today was an endurance run, and I got 2.35 miles. The plan was to get increase my pace, which I did. It would be nice to see a more detailed breakout of the pace, but mile 2 was approximately what I was running, so my pace was a little under 10 min / mile. I am still doing Galloway, with the 2 min run, 30 second walk. However, I was struggling a little towards the end, so my runs were a little under 2 min, and the walks were closer to 1 min. However, I am starting to get closer to 2/30 plan.

Tuesday – Run 2

Tuesday was 4×400 meters. I wanted to push myself a little, so I did 7.2 mph for each 400. However, I was only supposed to do 45 second breaks, and I was doing more like 1 min to 1:30 min breaks. Overall it felt pretty good. As always, I started off with my NTC warm-up.

Wednesday – Day 3

Today I had a pretty busy day at work, and it was technically a rest day, so I just did a 30 min ride on my trainer. I was really tired, but it still felt good to get something done. However, I do wish I had done some yoga or stretching, as I think that would have helped me out more with my body feeling tired.

Thursday – Run 3

Started off with a my NTC Warm-up and I felt really good. I was supposed to do my benchmark run for NRC, but it’s too short of a workout and to be honest, I am not trying to train specifically for pace. Therefore, I did a 3.4 mile run and got most of my 2 min / 30 sec Galloway splits! THIS is how I know my training is improving, and is the real benchmark. I still struggled a bit towards the end, but I can tell my endurance is definitely improving.

Friday

I was supposed to do my NTC workout today, which was a full body HiiT workout. But, I really just wanted to bike. Therefore, I hopped on my trainer for 45 minutes and did a moderate ride. It felt really good to up my resistance a little more than usual. However, I my heart rate did not want to climb. I think my cycling endurance has gotten a little too high for the training I am doing now. I really love my casual rides and binging on shows, but it’s time to start picking things up here as well.

Saturday

Today was supposed to be my long run. However, I had a rather active day getting stuff done in preparation for Thanksgiving week, plus I was feeling a bit run-down from my work week, so I didn’t want to do that and my long run, as that usually means a bad long run for me. Therefore, based on my Friday ride, I decided to up my game and do a more intense trainer ride. To my dismay, I still could not get my heart rate very high. My only thought on this is my perceived effort was a lot higher than actual effort. This would make sense since I was doing another late evening workout.

Sunday – Run 4

Usually cleaning day is Friday night or Saturday. However, it was Sunday this time. This means my back is usually a bit more tight. I made sure to do my NTC warm-up and also did a good 5 minute warm-up walk. However, the damage was done and I struggled big time and could only get in a total of 3.98 miles out of 5 planned. I started off fine, but around mile 2, my body felt like it hit a brick wall. My splits started barely hitting the 2 minute run, and I could barely do the 30 second walk, with my walk gradually increasing to 45 seconds to over a minute. Once I started doing more a 1:30 run / 1:45 walk, I called it. I was too exhausted, and from history, know when I get like the my form suffers and I did not want to injure myself. No worries though, I still got in a run and I’ll keep working to improve!
